We have created this blog in order to share information to the public as a health service to address health issues that many of us have. It is our belief that simply relying on physicians to cure our ailments in today’s world environment is asking a lot from physicians whom are already overburdened, underpaid and trying to financially keep their businesses profitable. The options out there for better health are many and we will talk about them.

One of the subject matters we will put a great deal of emphasis on is cancer. It is just astonishing that cancer is still accelerating in numbers unthinkable 20 years ago. They say that one out of every three men will have cancer within their lifetime and women suffer from breast cancer one in seven now. How can this be? We have spent trillions of dollars on research and we are making such small strides in a devastating disease that not just affects the patient, but friends and family also. Every single person knows someone who either has cancer or had cancer. What is this all about? How could the United States still not have permanent cures for cancer?. We have remissions, but cures? Not many when you look at the overall cancer population. Every city we drive into has huge, big cancer centers.

The multitude of diseases that people face in our society is another issue. People are really sick and getting sicker. If a physician actually gives a physical to a patient that does not have an ailment, it is really rare. We can classify obesity, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, viral infections, bacterial infections, heart attacks, infertility, the list goes on and on. What is really troubling is our youth today is not well. A certain percentage of the population has poor nutrition, exercise is almost non existent and colds, flu, childhood diseases are on the rise.

Yes, we have come up with some amazing technology for diagnosing disease and drugs to treat them. We have so many drugs on the market it is difficult to name them all. Drugs do save lives and we can be thankful for them. However, the overuse of drugs is incredible. Some patients are taking a multitude of different drugs with interactions to match. There are a lot of questions and perhaps we can get to the bottom of what is really going on! Comments are welcome and discussions will start shortly.

  1. I agree. The only way we as people can ensure good health is to stay up-to-date on what is available to us. Information is power and relying solely on physicians to give us positive outcomes for our health is problematic now. Our health system is in deep trouble relative to the level of care we receive. The medical insurance carriers continue to squeeze physicians. The reimbursement for office visits that physicians get from insurance companies is so low, physicians can barely cover their overhead expenses. Their liability insurance is so high, the premiums are difficult to meet. Medical school is expensive and those wishing to become physicians cannot afford it. Financially, Americans can’t afford to see physicians because of lack of health insurance. People are forced to look into alternative means of care. Aren’t we in just great shape?????

  2. Yes Mike, there are so many issues with our health care system these days. It is hard to know what the answer is. Nationalizing medical insurance which would mean relying on our government to run things is really scary. Our government is so heavily in debt now, they don’t really give a good example of what could be done with our medical care. The problem is with the insurance companies. Blue Cross had record breaking profits over the past few years. How could that be? They have gotten themselves in such trouble with patients because they refuse to pay on claims. They force patients to get lawyers to sue for care that they are paying monthly premiums for.

  3. Blue Cross is not the only insurance company that is withholding making good on their coverages. It is really unfortunate what is happening. I don’t think government is the answer either. Look at Medicare. It is costing the American people a fortune and there historically has been a great deal of fraud involved. Unfortunately, at this time that is what insurance is available to Americans at age 65. They still have to have another form of insurance along with Medicare to help pay for treatments not entirely covered. If you look at how well the government system is working for health care in Canada it does not fair well. People have to wait months for MRI’s and some towns do not have but one doctor to service their area. Hospitals are overcrowded and if you need surgery that is on the line of say repairing a knee or shoulder, you go on a waiting list for perhaps up to one year.

  4. Hey folks….at least we have health care! Look at the poor people in Africa dying everyday from bad water, no food, Melaria, AIDS. You can always find people worse off then we are.
